Bob Caswell: Buying a “Smart” Phone for the First Time: Which One?

  • Kathy · 11 months ago
Wow, a price scanner?! You'll be one of the few and proud to call the bluffs of all the retailers that claim they'll match prices. You're a veritable walking coupon now! - And no, I'm not being sarcastic. Some of us get really excited about stuff like that. BTW, this page should be called the "boblog." Ohh...she's thrifty AND clever!

Yeah, I agree that it is pretty exciting... although I don't know what's a greater threat to retailers: the fact that I'm a walking coupon or that I shop mostly online anyway. Either way, it doesn't look good for them.

Nice blog name suggestion! Now if only the domain name wasn't taken...

I recently switched (sold my old one and bought a new one for the same price on Craigslist :) to a Windows Mobile 6-based Treo from a Palm-based one as a sort of stop gap measure until a phone came out that I really wanted. I wasn't expecting to like WinMo, but I've been _really_ surprised.

My only complaint is that my Treo doesn't have high-end hardware (read: iPhone, G1, Palm Pre, or even HTC). Right now I'm leaning towards the Palm Pre, but I have had my eye on some of the higher end HTC WinMo phones.

WinMo has tons of third-party apps, is unbelievably customizable, has awesome integration with Outlook, great Word, Excel, PowerPoint support, stereo bluetooth support (my car has it too), 3G/HSDPA with tethering (wired or bluetooth), and I got it for $80.

Interesting, I should learn more. I hadn't thought of (and hadn't known) WinMo in the context of third-party apps and customization. I should look into it more.
