Partner with Microsoft and NetFlix will eventually get eaten alive, by Microsoft. This is the typical proxy war that microsoft is fighting with Apple, through Netflix. Once Apple is defeated, Netflix will be killed off. Microsoft will dominate your living room. When this day comes (if it comes), IT industry will suffer greatly, innovation will die. Regulators need to have bite to split up the company else it doesn't do any good to the world.

Netflix streaming movies on a gaming console like the Xbox (particularly if it was via the Media Center interface) would be a game changer. And Netflix has said in the past they'd like to partner with console platforms.

The Netflix founder IS on Microsoft's board. And I could easily see them resolving the competing interests of Xbox Live Marketplace and Netflix streaming by positioning the former as premium/HD/downloadable/portable content and the latter as basic streaming content. Give me that and I'm back as a Netflix subscriber within the hour. It seems a no-brainer and a win-win for both parties. Microsoft gets a major compelling reason for people to use the Xbox and Netflix gets instant access to an existing hardware platform with wide distribution.

So basically, masterblaster, your thoughts are similar to mine:

Apple having bonus "cool" features doesn't compare to one less box you have to setup on your TV. If Netflix gets into gaming (literally)... sounds like we're both sold.

If the Apple TV supported bluetooth so I could use my keyboard and mouse and web browsing so I could watch Veoh or ABC.com then the Apple TV would be cool...

But if the PS3 comes out with firmware that supports Netflix On Demand, then that decides it for me. Netflix will have a winner in my opinion.
